The World's First Service Organisation
Rotary International is a worldwide fellowship of business leaders and professional persons who take an active role in their communities - thus greatly enriching both their personal and their professional lives. Rotary International provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps to build goodwill and peace in the world.
Membership of a Rotary Club offers opportunities for:-
- Effecting change within the community.
- Developing leadership skills.
- Gaining an understanding of, and having an impact on, international humanitarian issues.
- Meeting new people and developing new friendships.
- Enjoying a broad range of activities that ranging from community service projects through to events run purely for fun.
Through Rotary's service programmes, a Rotary club can have a significant effect on the quality of life in its community. Rotarians develop community service projects that address many of today's most critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracy, and violence. They also support programs for youth, educational opportunities and international exchanges for students, teachers, and other professionals, and vocational and career development.
Rotary Foundation programmes offer opportunities to form international partnerships that help people in need around the world. The Rotary Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation that promotes world understanding through international humanitarian service programs and educational and cultural exchanges. It is supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and others who share its vision of a better world.
Probably the best explanation of what we are, what we do - and why we do it, can be found in THIS Rotary International leaflet. Called simply "Rotary Basics" it gives an excellent overview and it is well worth a read.
